ARTIST STATEMENT
I have always been fascinated by and extremely passionate about movies. I think there is something completely magical and different about filmmaking as an art form, and I think the relationships we build with the movies we love are intimate and transformative. One of the first things I ask someone when I meet them for the first time is what their top 5 favourite movies ever are. When you ask someone to talk about a film they love, they completely light up. It feels like they are telling you about a dear friend or a cherished bond. Movies become part of our inner circle, our childhood memories, and something that holds joy and can make you smile or dissolve into tears no matter what mood you are in. There is something immensely special about the bond we share with movies and the unique portion of our identities they hold, therefore this series delves into the relationships people have with their favourite films and the way they are impacted by them. Each person has been photographed in the style of their favourite film, with direct inspiration taken from production elements such as cinematography and costume design. I incorporated these images with graphic design and typography elements to create cross-disciplinary images that integrate the subject into the movie they love. This series aims to visualise the bond people and movies can share, as well as the ways movies pull our emotions to the surface and ignite nostalgia.
